Six Sentence Sunday 8/5/12

Welcome to another Six Sentence Sunday!  I have officially completed the first and very rough draft of my WIP The Mythical Male.  I now need to go back and figure out which subplots I'm going to expand on, which I'm going to cut and I'll probably need to draw out some action as well.  So what you read here may or may not make it to the final manuscript, but I hope you enjoy it anyway!
For my six sentences this week, I chose a great moment between two great friends.  I was debating whether or not I should give a little background or just keep you guessing and I decided to let you fill in the blanks.  Enjoy!
Syky wrapped her arms around Ziki.  “I don’t think you’re strange. I would do that for you if you weren’t already like family to me.  It’d be too weird to have a baby with my sister, you know?”

She gave Syky a squeeze.  “Thanks Sy, I totally get it. Why don’t you go cancel your appointment, and get ready for some retail therapy with me, Xulula, and Isis?”

Make sure you check out more great writers by clicking the icon above or to the right.  I'm also using this opportunity for something I think I'm ready to try: author interview!  If you're willing to let me interview you for my blog (and have a chance to advertise your work) send me an email.  :)

P.S.  Please read my post titled "HELP!"  and give your input.  I'm desperate.

  1. Hi Samantha,
First of all about the Help post (which I read out of interest without any prompting).

What others said is right - some people are plain rude and the internet seems to encourage them to be even more so. It doesn't matter that you might have explained yourself better, the fact is you wrote an honest and helpful critique and the recipient showed his/her ignorance in that ungrateful response. One thing s/he said was true, you shouldn't have bothered because s/he simply wasn't worth it.

Don't waste any more time or energy agonising over it. Draw a line under it and focus on your own creativity. There are plenty of nice people in the world, I promise you.

Now, your six sentences are extremely intriguing. I'm going to have to read more of this to find out about Syky and Ziki (great names). They make me want to know them better and that's the important thing. Well done.

  2. Fantastic names. I like the bouncy, fun dialogue between the two. It seems like they're very good friends. I'm a big fan of retail therapy, particularly when it takes place in a book store.

  3. I like you dialogue here. It sounds very realistic.

  4. I'm definitely curious about what's going on between these two!

You said, "now need to go back and figure out which subplots I'm going to expand on, which I'm going to cut." I laughed! I love my subplots too, so I totally understand! :)

  5. This is definitely intriguing. :) I'm not sure I filled in the blanks correctly, so I'll be back to see what's next!

  6. Congratulations on completing your first draft!

This is a tantalizing bit of dialogue, certainly makes me wonder what's going on. Good job!

  7. I love the names and the dialogue! I'd love to read more.
